For mobile, multi-tasking users, the ThinkPad X1 Yoga marks the start of an exciting new chapter. A lightweight, business-class hybrid that balances the competing demands of performance, reliability and mobility – effortlessly.

The challenge for the ThinkPad X1 Yoga design team was to consider how the design could be thinner and lighter, without compromising on quality or durability. Every aspect was reviewed with the needs of mobile users in mind. The end result is a product that exhibits craftsmanship and innovation from every angle.

New hinge design

The Yoga hinge has been completely re-engineered to support the ThinkPad X1 Yoga’s thinner, lighter form factor. The design is now smaller, but it still provides ‘Lift ‘n’ Lock’ functionality, while supporting a retractable keyboard with spill-resistant capability. The newly designed hinge also upholds ThinkPad’s reputation for reliability. Having been tested vigorously through 30,000 cycles, the Yoga hinge delivers the same reliability as Lenovo’s clamshell hinges.

Embedded intelligence

Intelligent sensing technology has been introduced, which can extend battery life by up to 70% in some use cases. By designing the system and thermals to recognise how a system is being used, power management can be adjusted to match the mode in use.

Intelligent cooling has also been introduced to provide the perfect balance of comfort and power. By alternating between full performance mode and cool mode, depending on how the device is being used, intelligent cooling delivers a system that’s up to 15% cooler and 10% quieter when ‘on lap’ – with no loss of performance.

Designed for WWAN

Support for high-speed WWAN networks is now incorporated into the ThinkPad X1 Yoga. To achieve this, a unique Magnesium-Aluminum hybrid C cover was designed to include an area of non-conductive material that allows cellular waves to pass through to the antenna in the LCD.

Dockable stylus

To enhance the stylus experience, ThinkPad engineers have used active capacitive technology that analyses and optimises the interaction between the stylus and the ThinkPad X1 Yoga touchscreen. The result is a more accurate, fluent and flexible writing experience – and a more cost-effective solution. The dockable pen is charged and stored in-system, and delivers performance that is comparable with a digitizer, without adding depth or weight to the system. It charges fast too, with a 15-second charge providing 100 minutes of usage.
